Free The People

Free The People

It was for years, everyday, in the land of the sand
With their fears, the voice of the people banned
No speaking, no freedom; bending to their command
For reasons, we believed it, and sit as they stand

But look back to the story, once a kingdom of glory
Oppressed, the very citizens—the leader’s quarry
The Pharaoh, much dinero, treating the people poorly
And those who chose to stand up got crushed like Ms. Corrie

The right, to fight for what’s right, got lost along the line
The line in the sand got blurred and crossed over time
But in these days, it’s crazy just to claim “It’s mine”
What this requires is justice for the same old crime

And so, it was a beautiful day
When the river flowed up
And the sun rose up
Just like any other day, both of them showed up

But this day, the people saw a different sunrise
‘Cause sometimes, it’s time to see that one prize
And get up on their feet, off their knees, out of the disguise
The people standing all upright, against the lies

Together they square off, who’ll win on the ground floor?
The officials? Only up by one and a half score
The artificial, the corrupt, the watchers of gore?
Or,
The oppressed, the destitute, the poor
The pride, the passion, the opening door
The noise, the families, the feline roar

The revolution has always had the people at its core
The so-thought “blessed goodness” will rise up no more
For it’s been mistaken, and taken us on a war
Against ourselves, our lives, for ideals we abhor

So the crowds will parade, and reporters will fade
But the struggle will remain, and there will be a new day
When footsteps in the sand, the people will have made
When the people will rise before the sun to pray

And the bodies and minds and souls will be free
And the hope of God in the hearts be near
And the eyes of the world will open and see
The rise for the cause of its own تحرير (tahrir)

“And so, it was a beautiful day

    And the sun rose up
Just like any other day, both of them showed up…
So the crowds will parade, and reporters will fade
But the struggle will remain, and there will be a new day
When footsteps in the sand, the people will have made
When the people will rise before the sun to pray”—-loved these lines, they really paint a picture in your mind
