A World for Introverts

Pinterest LinkedIn

I dream of a world
where introverts don’t have to explain ourselves
A world where we can dream
Without being interrupted by reality
Where we can cocoon ourselves in silence
And watch the seconds slip by in seclusion

A world where we aren’t questioned
When we want to be alone
Drinking the stillness and quiet until we are full
And ready to venture outside again
I dream that we can dig deep into ourselves
And emerge with the jewels found only through introspection
We can carry our hard-sought treasures without being shaken up
By intrusive people who want us to join the crowd

The world of my dreams has enough space
For us to rest and reflect, for us to socialize when we want to
To participate in life and to retreat
To walk among people and return to ourselves
A steady rhythm like waves on the ocean shore
When this rhythm is interrupted, we fall into dysfunction
The demands of the world wear on our senses
Too much contact with others depletes our batteries

We dream of a world where we can recharge in peace
And not be challenged to change our ways towards the mainstream
Extroverts, we introverts deserve our lifestyle too
The sooner you learn this the better for us
The sooner you know this the sooner this world we dream of
Will become real
Until we no longer need to dream of a world for introverts
Because we already live in it
