when this world forgets your name
and looks away from the faces of the many we’ve lost
at the hands of the oppressor
I will hold your hands
dear Falasteen
I will speak of your land
and remember the martyrs
even if I am just a nobody
when this world laughs at your pain
and relishes in their silence
I will speak again and again
and again
when they stop uttering, Gaza
I’ll remind myself of you
again and again
and again
oh dear Falasteen
what haven’t you endured?
as the days lead on and the months become years;
as the sunshine melts into the moonlight
and the air falls brisker,
your breaths draw out torturously – growing fainter,
slower,
shallower
until the last painful breath takes its heave
your children lay in their blood-stained pajamas
and your women sit in shock, stripped of their dignity
the fathers cry and their calloused hands dig for dead bodies
your homes have become rubble and ashes
your people taken hostage
assaulted and beaten
dear Falasteen, what haven’t you endured?
they’ve spread lies on your name,
on your innocence
propaganda machines of the devil
yet they claim themselves to be the children of light
the fascist regimes have spent billions in attempts to turn us against you
yet we cry for your freedom day and night
your name forever in our duas
and your people’s memory carved in our hearts
the enemy continues to point fingers and accuse
as if the terrorists are the ones murdered
and the hero is behind the gun
but what the oppressors don’t realize
is that their “victory”
is only the beginning of their end
ya Falasteen
may your Lord compensate you
may He build the most beautiful gardens for you
in your resting paradise where your names are already written
for indeed your Lord sees all
and He never forgets.
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].”
– Surah Ibrahim, Ayat 42 – The Holy Quran
