I see patience
Lurking in the breeze,
Testing ancient trees that stay standing,
Rooted deep, their strength expanding.
I feel patience
In the waves of the ocean
Caressing the shore with timeless grace,
A dance that has no hurry, no race.
I hear patience
In the harmonious laughter of a child
Learning to walk and stumble,
Yet, they never crumble.
I sense patience
In the girl who ran into a man,
She once believed was “the one,”
Still, her smile rises, persistent like the sun.
I hold patience
In the soft, wrinkled hands of an elder
Telling stories of tradition,
To eager ears, not minding repetition.
I find patience
In the pen of a writer,
Inked scribbles smudged across the page,
Pausing mid-line, their thoughts pacing in a cage.
Patience lives
In the heartbeat of time
A steady rhythm that never unwinds,
The clock’s soft ticking, calm and kind.

Beautiful piece! Reminds me of Angelou’s “Still I Rise.” I love the gentle images, and especially the last stanza!
I love the examples you used to illustrate patience. They are all strong images yet there is a variety of them. Really strong poem.
I love how we can feel the stillness of noticing patience in everything through the writers intentional word choice… It really guides me to slow down. It’s really beautiful to be given that lens of observation and appreciation so gently by the author herself… Jazakillahukhair for sharing this with us Lana!
